A message from Fr. Fintan

23rd Apr 2020

Dear Parents and Children from Second Class,

I hope you are keeping well in these strange days. In this newsletter I have written out one of the Gospel stories that we have done in school, The Lost Sheep. In preparation for First Holy Communion we might try to read it and think about what it means.

I would also encourage you to keep making some time for prayer each day and I have two YouTube videos for you to watch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXUN4lsxvtE (Video for Holy Thursday)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-sALbG8ypQ (Action Song)

Also on the Parish Facebook page there are other prayers and videos that might be of interest. It’s Sacredheartparishkillinarden.

The Lost Sheep
Here is a farmer. He has a hundred sheep. He is counting them.
One of his sheep is missing. Oh dear! Where has it gone?
Is it in the hen-house? No. Is it behind the haystack? No.
Is it under the hedge? No, it is lost.
All day the farmer looks for his sheep. He climbs up hills and
scrambles over rocks. He crawls through bramble bushes. The thorns scratch him. But he will not give up. He is tired and hungry. His feet ache. But he will not give up.
At last, the farmer sees his sheep. It has fallen in the river. The farmer dives into the water. Splash! He rescues the sheep.
Hooray! The farmer has found his sheep. Let’s all have a party!
Jesus says, ‘God is like the farmer. He loves us just like the farmer loves his sheep.

The Gospel of the Lord.

What was Jesus trying to teach us in this story?

I think he was trying to tell us that we are very precious to God and that God wants us to be close to him. We come a bit closer to Jesus and to God our loving Father when we pray. So hopefully we are continuing to prepare for First Holy Communion by making some prayer time every day. The best prayer comes from our hearts and we can also use our prayer books. Maybe you could draw a picture of the lost sheep and write a prayer on it?

A few jokes :

What did the mouse say when it broke its front teeth? Hard cheese!

What do cats eat for breakfast? Mice Krispies!

Why can’t a leopard hide? Because he’s always spotted!

Hopefully we will do our best to keep smiling in these days and remember that Jesus’ help and strength and love is with us every day.
God bless and I will be in touch again soon.
