Sensory Play

2nd Apr 2020

All children enjoy sensory play but it is particularly enjoyable and beneficial for children on the autistic spectrum.

For Autism Awareness Month you could make some sensory boxes at home. You just need a plastic tub or basin. There are lots more ideas on the internet, but here are a few to get you started:

  • Shaving foam
  • Gloop (cornflour and water)
  • Cooked spaghetti
  • Dried lentils/rice/oatmeal (put some mini motors in too)
  • Melting ice (freeze lego or toy animals in small containers with water overnight, try 'freeing' them by squirting or pouring water on them)
  • Sand
  • Washing up liquid in water, use straws to make bubble mountains
  • Moon sand (baby oil and flour)
